The John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design at the University of Toronto offers professional graduate programs in architecture, landscape architecture, urban design, and visual studies  — as well as unique undergraduate programs that use architectural studies and visual studies as a lens through which students may pursue a broad, liberal arts-based education. The Mass Timber Institute is pursuing industry collaboration focused on ground-breaking research and development as well as specialized teaching and training for mass timber wood buildings and the use of advanced wood products. The partnership, co-led by the University of Toronto and George Brown College, with the academic partners including the Universities of Lakehead, Laurentian and Ottawa, and other partners including FPInnovations and Wood WORKS!, will work with industry, engineers, architects, designers and builders and other colleges and universities and governments, across Canada and internationally. The Tall Wood Building demonstration projects being planned by the University of Toronto and George Brown College will be used as “living labs” or learning landscapes for the Institute’s programs. The Institute can position Canada’s building and construction industry in the forefront of mass timber construction while stimulating student learning and skill creation.
